Tell us About Your Hero

In the July Powerlines article entitled, "Everyday Heroes Bless Our Lives," Dr. Schuller talks about the heroes in our lives - the men and women who serve and protect, who provide guidance and inspiration everyday.

Tell us about your everyday hero. What makes him or her a hero in your eyes?

Is Jesus your ultimate hero? What are the special qualities of Jesus that you would like to emulate so that you may be a hero to someone in need today?

There have been many people in my life who I have admired for their faith, their values, their seemingly endless patience and grace under fire. I have seen these attributes in my teachers from a child all through school. I see this in those special people who make up our church families and in our neighborhoods who give of themselves so unselfishly. They are everywhere, we see them and know them by name.

My salvation experieince came to me as a twelve year old little girl. My mom and dad had always shown me the love of Jesus, but we all have to make that decision for ourselves. From the time I became a Christian, my heart was taken over by a peace I had never known and a heart's desire to serve Him in a child's heart's way. Then as I grew in age and faith that desire only increased and continues to increase today.

Jesus is my hero to the utmost, His love and faithfulness never ends and never fades. He keeps His promises and He brings to our unsteady hearts, the strength and courage we need to endure life's most harrowing battles and tragedies. His gentle shepherding of my life all these years only makes me love Him more and more and desire to serve Him. I pray, with our Father's help, to be more and more like the One who loved me enough to save me and to help me be the woman of faith, wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, that He wants me to be by His grace and love toward me.

My everyday hero that I can see and touch, talk to and rely upon is my dear husband. He has been my constant for almost 43 years and counting. He is always fair, always forgiving, patient and kind. He is a wonderful father and his faith in His Savior never wavers.

He has been stricken with ill health and disability and horrible adversity but he has never doubted our Father's nearness to him. He holds his family close to his heart and His Father is the person he trusts in, relies upon and seeks every day for His will for his life. He is the most generous and loving person I have ever known and is someone I admire more than words can say.

He has provided for me and our family and continues to nourish and favor us with his faith in Christ. Through all of the problems life has brought to him, the illness he lives with each day, the death of our son, the loss of alot of his physical strength due to medical problems and fighting depression has never caused him to give up on our Father. He draws great strength from his faith and he lives his faith, not in a showy way but in a way that allows him to give of himself for the sake of others. He is always ready to talk about Jesus and what He has done in his life. He is always ready to lift and help carry the burden of someone who is needful, say a kind word to someone who is hurting, loving and tender to his family and gracious to those who are downtrodden in faith.

Yes, for forty-three years, he has been my "everyday" hero because in his love for me and our family and many brothers and sisters in Christ, we have seen Jesus coming through in his faithful ways and tender care. His hands are strong enough to lift a heavy burden and gentle enough to hold a tiny baby. His heart is big enough to say he is in need of our Father's constant help and grace, humble enough to cry out for forgiveness and open enough to forgive others. Yes, my husband is my everyday hero and is loved more than words can ever say, for this man, my gift from our Father's hand, an answer to a young girl's prayer so many years ago, my faithful partner spiritually and in all ways, I am so grateful and thankful. Thank You Father for the gift of his love and for his faithful witness to me of Your love for us all.

Love, Jan

I had a few heroes. My dad was 59 when I was born and lived 13 more years. He was full of love and let me go everywhere with him. My 12 year older brother took me to fun places even when he was sick. A Dr. Hubbard took me when my academic record was awful and mentored me in junior college. Due to him I graduated from college with a 'C' average. I would have dropped out without him. An associate pastor shared the gospel of Jesus Christ for the first time with me when I was 30. Because of him my wife and I became Christians on the same day at different times and locations. My best friend paid for all my fast food meals for 4 years while I went through financial hardship due to foolish use of credit cards.

I am a very fortunate man here with the heroine of my life--my wife. She has been with me 53 years while I asked her to move 20 times in 40 years.

Of course, Jesus Christ. While I do not share the same philosophy as some here as to how He works in our daily lives, I would not be where I am in any area without Him.

Thumbs up Ultimately Jesus.

Jesus Christ was the Master, definitely mastering the art of service. He gave Himself for others and all without getting paid. Joy came from serving others for the higher purpose of spiritual growth and evolution.
````` Service is the act of doing all for the cause of Love. The foundation of our Nature is Love because we grow in a loving environment. God's Love needs expression in our workplace and is expressed through good service.
`````Giving of yourself in the name of Love is the highest honour you can pay to those that surround you.
`````God's faithful Love abides forever.
I guess you would say Brig General(ret) Charles "Chuck" Yeager is my hero. He was a mustang. A mustang in the service means he was an enlisted man who became an officer. He broke the sound barrier in the plane named after his wife. So that is m hero. Paul
